The Ecole Nationale d’Ingenieurs de Sfax, ENIS (National Engineering School of of Sfax) was established in 1983 after a law that transformed the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques of Sfax University (founded in 1975) into the current school, and it is divided in 7 departments (Georesources and Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Materials, Mechanical Engineering, Computing and Applied Mathematics). The main goal of ENIS is to pursue excellence in technical science, as proven by the establishment of numerous research laboratories deeply involved in national and international research projects.
In particular, during the outgoing phase, Bir al-Nas will be developed in close collaboration with the Laboratory of Radio-Analysis and Environment (LRAE) of ENIS. LRAE was created in 1999 following the reorganization of research activities carried out by the secretariat of State Scientific and Technological Research with the Ministry of Higher Education of Tunisia. Since the beginning, research activities at LRAE have been focused on supporting sustainable and integrated water resources management (IWRM) through surface and groundwater characterization in Tunisia and evaluation of aquifer’s vulnerability to natural and human induced contaminants. LRAE works in close contact with national and international institutions, including the Agricultural Ministry of Tunisia, the National Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies of Tunisa (CNSTN), the National Society for Water Exploitation and Distribution (SONEDE, Tunisia), the National Office for Sanitation, (ONAS, Tunisia), the Institute of Research and Development (IRD, France), Hydrology Institute of GSF of Munich (Germany), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), University Paris-Sud (France), Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Italy), ISO4 s.n.c. private laboratory in Turin (Italy), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and UNESCO-IHP.
